About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead and influence transport planning work throughout Waikato and Bay of Plenty
Work with local government, partner agencies, iwi and stakeholders to develop a shared long-term view of transport system needs and priorities
Connect NZTA and the wider sector to align regional and national planning objectives
Ensure transport outcomes are future-focused, evidence-based and deliverable
Lead complex planning initiatives
Contribute to regional spatial planning
Influence investment and policy decisions
Foster partnerships supporting better outcomes for communities across Aotearoa
Develop future-focused strategies and translate long-term vision into practical outcomes
Coach and mentor others and contribute to team capability development
Support decision-making through evidence, insights and future-focused thinking

Requirements

What you’ll need

Extensive experience in transport planning, strategic planning, or related disciplines
Proven ability to lead complex initiatives and influence outcomes across multiple stakeholders
Strong experience in land-use and transport integration, spatial planning, and collaborative planning environments
Sound understanding of local government planning processes, including Regional Land Transport Plans, Long-Term Plans and spatial planning frameworks
Demonstrated success developing future-focused strategies and translating long-term vision into practical outcomes
Highly developed relationship management, engagement and influencing skills
Ability to build credibility across diverse stakeholder groups
Experience coaching and mentoring others and contributing to capability development within teams
Strong analytical thinking and ability to use evidence, insights and future-focused thinking to support decision-making
Relevant tertiary qualification in planning, transport planning, geography, public policy or a related field, or equivalent experience
Knowledge of, or willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori
Knowledge of, or willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in the public sector
Legal right to live and work in New Zealand
