About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Applies expert level engineering principles, techniques and practices in the preparation and/or review of I&C system design work products such as one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, system and equipment requirement specifications, system design documents, engineering studies, engineering calculations, engineering reports, hazard analyses, and Inspections, Tests, Analyses and Acceptance Criteria (ITAAC)
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work
  • Supports preparation of work scope and schedule for assignments
  • Compile functional and design requirements into component and system design with consideration for system interfaces, manufacturability, serviceability and in-service inspection
  • Develops departmental R&D needs and contributes to methodology development
  • Interprets scope and project requirements and develops design alternatives
  • Plans, organizes, and performs complex assignments in a team environment
  • Applies experience in the design, testing and installation of process control and automation systems
  • Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers
  • Serves as a technical lead for the design of systems, structures, and components
  • Responsible for results and engineering oversight
  • Regularly interacts with directors and/or major clients
  • Creates formal networks and may serve as an internal and/or external spokesperson for the organization regarding specialized projects or programs
  • Provides oversight and direction to key suppliers of I&C systems and components
  • Also, coordinates design interfaces with other disciplines and partners associated with the I&C systems
  • Acts as a primary interface to regulatory agencies concerning I&C design principles of assigned I&C systems including supporting audits, requests for additional information (RAI), and meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (power option preferred), from a four-year ABET (MRA/MOU) accredited college or university
  • A professional engineer license registration or advanced degree is considered
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience within commercial nuclear power, in a design and/or systems engineering organization
  • Naval nuclear power experience may be credited towards commercial
  • Must have excellent technical writing, communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills as well as being highly organized with the ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases
  • Must have the ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Preferred experience includes: Experience in the design and installation of I&C safety protection systems, as well as development of testing and installation procedures for this type of equipment for commercial nuclear plants
  • Experience in the design and installation of neutron monitoring systems, as well as development of testing and installation procedures for this type of equipment for commercial nuclear plants
  • Possess a working knowledge of source terms, normal and accident dose analysis, criticality concepts, particle transport, reactor physics, vessel fluence, and shielding analysis, with emphasis on pressurized light ‑ water reactors and primary systems related to neutron and in ‑ core monitoring system design and installation
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations and guidelines into system design requirements for nuclear power plants
  • Proficient in mapping NRC regulatory requirements to specific system design parameters
  • Cross ‑ functional operations experience such as Shift Technical Engineer or Plant Certification
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Familiarity with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards 497, 603, 308, 379, 384, 323, 344, and 1050.
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
