About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and/or primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations.
  • Performs and documents evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code including but not limited to analysis of components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings including Primary Stress, Primary plus Secondary stress intensity range, and Fatigue.
  • Utilizes the results from these evaluations to optimize component(s) design.
  • Significant experience with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages.
  • Interprets scope and project requirements.
  • Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in all areas of NSSS Component Analysis.
  • Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems.
  • Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers.
  • Serves as a technical lead for the NSSS Component Analysis Group.
  • Responsible for results and engineering oversight.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required.
  • An advanced degree is preferred.
  • A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of full-time relevant working experience is required.
  • Candidates must have extensive experience utilizing ANSYS to perform stress analysis in accordance with Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Subsections NB, NG, and/or NF.
  • Additional experience in the following areas is desired: Seismic/dynamic analysis.
  • Computer programming skills (e.g., ANSYS APDL, Matlab, Python).
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
