About the role
- Applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform civil structural design of Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures
- Serves as subject matter expert in the civil structural design areas
- Resolving technical issues, coordinating discussion with interdisciplinary stakeholders, and working with the management team to identify project impacts
- Works on highly complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas and proposes innovative design solutions requiring a significant amount of independent judgment
- Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types
- Interfaces with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts
- Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of the team’s technical activities
- Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies
Requirements
- A minimum of a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required
- An advanced degree is preferred
- A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred
- Minimum of 12 years of full-time, highly relevant experience as a Structural Design Engineer is required
- Extensive use and understanding of ANSYS is required
- Must have in-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, theories, strong technical writing skills as well as good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional organization and time management skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required
- Additional experience in design and analysis of structures, including concrete and steel, use of design software and finite element method analyses
- Working with the following codes preferred: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690, Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual
- Computer programing skills (e.g. Matlab, or Python) is not required, but preferred
