About the role
- Manage a caseload representing low-income renters in housing cases including evictions, terminations from subsidized housing, conditions issues, and lease disputes
- Cover cases at the Skokie, Rolling Meadows, and Waukegan courthouses
- Conduct client intakes and provide advice and brief services
- Assist with off-site legal clinics in the community
- Conduct Know Your Rights presentations for the community on housing law
- Supervise and train law and undergraduate interns
- Collaborate with NSLAC’s Domestic Violence Law Practice and Immigration Law Practice teams ensuring a holistic approach to client matters
- Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure NSLAC team’s success
Requirements
- J.D. degree and Illinois law license required
- Understanding of and commitment to NSLAC’s public interest law mission
- A demonstrated team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills
- Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced nonprofit
