About the role

  • Manage a caseload representing low-income renters in housing cases including evictions, terminations from subsidized housing, conditions issues, and lease disputes
  • Cover cases at the Skokie, Rolling Meadows, and Waukegan courthouses
  • Conduct client intakes and provide advice and brief services
  • Assist with off-site legal clinics in the community
  • Conduct Know Your Rights presentations for the community on housing law
  • Supervise and train law and undergraduate interns
  • Collaborate with NSLAC’s Domestic Violence Law Practice and Immigration Law Practice teams ensuring a holistic approach to client matters
  • Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure NSLAC team’s success

Requirements

  • J.D. degree and Illinois law license required
  • Understanding of and commitment to NSLAC’s public interest law mission
  • A demonstrated team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced nonprofit
