About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, Board packs, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow reporting, journals, and supporting working papers.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by preparing and reviewing journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Public Finance Act, Crown Entities Act, PBE accounting standards, GST and FBT obligations, Treasury reporting requirements, insurance renewals, and external audit requirements.
  • Prepare the annual Statement of Performance Expectations (SPE) and support multi-period forecasting (4+8, 6+6, and 8+4), including balance sheet and cash flow forecasts.
  • Analyse financial performance, balance sheet movements, and cash flow providing meaningful variance analysis and insights.
  • Review and enhance finance processes, documentation, and internal controls to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders across the business and collaborate with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3–5 years' experience in financial accounting, statutory reporting, tax compliance, and public sector accounting standards (PBE).
  • Strong experience managing month-end and year-end close processes, including financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Proven capability in budgeting, forecasting, multi-period planning (4+8, 6+6, and 8+4), and detailed variance analysis.
  • A process-driven mindset with experience in process documentation, internal controls, and continuous improvement.
  • High technical accuracy, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear and practical way.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to partner effectively with the Finance team and stakeholders across the organisation.
