About the role

  • Develop, update, and maintain PRA models for advanced reactor designs addressing internal events, floods, fires, seismic events, high winds, and other external hazards.
  • Systematically enumerate event sequences and assess their frequency and consequences, including common-cause failures.
  • Define PRA Safety Functions (PSFs) and identify critical SSCs.
  • Use PRA to evaluate safety characteristics and provide structured inputs for Licensing Basis Events (LBEs).
  • Apply PRA to inform performance targets for SSC capability and reliability.
  • Prepare and submit PRA documentation to support CP, OL, COL, and DC applications and ensure alignment with regulatory guidance.
  • Develop methodologies for site characteristics, hazard assessments, and off-site dose projections.
  • Participate in PRA peer reviews and self-assessments per NRC-endorsed standards and implement PRA configuration control.
  • Identify and evaluate uncertainties and assumptions in PRA models.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, Human Factors Engineering teams on HRA, and provide PRA insights to procedure and training development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of PRA experience within the nuclear power industry.
  • Demonstrated experience performing or managing at least one PRA study for a nuclear plant or design.
  • Familiarity with the ASME/ANS PRA Standard for Advanced Non-Light Water Reactors (ASME/ANS RA-S-1.4-2021).
  • Knowledge of U.S. nuclear regulatory guidelines (10 CFR 50, 10 CFR 52, RGs 1.233, 1.247).
  • Experience analyzing internal events, internal/external hazards, and plant operating states.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Preferred: Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Nuclear Engineering or related field.
  • Preferred: Experience with PRA peer reviews or self-assessments.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Human Factors Engineering (HFE) integration with PRA.
  • Preferred: Experience with risk-informed applications (e.g., technical specifications, inservice inspections).
