About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide expert legal advice, analysis, and guidance on insurance regulatory matters, especially compliance and interpretation of the Compact, Bylaws, Uniform Standards, Operating Procedures, and organizational requirements
- Collaborate with executive leadership on legal questions arising from product review operations, rulemaking, and member and committee support activities
- Research and analyze product content requirements to support development of new or amended Uniform Standards
- Research and analyze administrative requirements to support development of new and amended rules, Operating Procedures, and processes
- Provide legal guidance on Compact rulemaking requirements and activities
- Provide legal and technical expertise to product operations supporting review of insurance products within the Compact and Uniform Standards
- Serve as legal point of contact for state insurance departments, the Management Committee, and advisory committees regarding Compact law, principles, and Uniform Standards
- Track, research, and analyze impacts of state and federal legislative and regulatory changes on Compact Uniform Standards, Operating Procedures, and processes
- Address questions and concerns from Commissioners, regulators, legislators, company and industry representatives, consumers, and the NAIC team in a timely manner
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- 5 to 10 years of legal or regulatory experience in the insurance or other financial sector
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- High level of discretion and confidentiality
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with insurance product compliance and/or familiarity with interstate compacts preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint
- Experience with legal research tools such as Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, and NILS
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
- Regular out-of-state, overnight travel required
