About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Code procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10-CM and CPT classification systems in accordance with official coding guidelines, CMS guidelines, payer rules and policies, and Mosaic compliance standards
  • Participate in online educational sessions, workshops, conferences, and/or in-services and maintain participation records
  • Communicate with providers and query them to ensure documentation specificity
  • Work with Patient Financial Services, Revenue Integrity, or other departments to verify and modify charges and coding
  • Ensure accuracy of State HIDI data and other claims by responding to edits
  • Perform specialty care claims rejections or denials
  • Assist in training newly hired coders
  • Perform other assigned duties
  • Code outpatient services including emergency room, injection and infusion, non-complex outpatient surgeries, and obstetric observation
  • Code multiple specialties or non-complex surgical specialties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Candidates must reside in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, or Virginia
  • High school diploma required
  • Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology required
  • Coding education required
  • 2 years of coding experience required
  • 3 years of coding experience may substitute for coding education
  • One of the following required upon hire: CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P, or COC certification
  • Must pass the Epic Healthcare Assessment within 5 business days of hire
  • Detailed knowledge of medical terminology, pathophysiology, and coding guidelines
  • Ability to input and retrieve data, speak clearly, write well, and perform precise hand/eye coordination and fine motor tasks
  • Ability to interpret chart data and encoder instructions, understand physician documentation, concentrate for long periods, and visualize/interpret patient records
  • Ability to work with interruptions and flexibility in hours and workflow
  • Regular ability to sit, reach, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch
