About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Participates in the conceptual development and design of waterfront structural projects across various industries including container shipping, defense, bulk material handling, oil and gas, and marinas
  • Performs structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber structures
  • Analyzes static and dynamic loading on laterally performing structures, including the impact of soil-structure interaction
  • Develops finite element models of marine structures using software such as SAP2000 or similar
  • Prepares calculations and documents information for completed designs
  • Coordinates and develops structural drawings with engineers and drafters
  • Performs site visits and inspections of existing structures to evaluate existing conditions and prepares condition assessment reports
  • Assists with construction administration including periodic site visits and review of shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals
  • Supports quantity takeoffs for construction cost estimating
  • Learns by attending and participating in meetings and conference calls with clients and project team members

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with Structural coursework or similar degree; required
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis or similar; strongly preferred
  • Entry level to 2+ years of experience
  • Previous experience or internship/cooperative education in heavy civil, structural, or marine/waterfront design; strongly preferred
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification; preferred
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or a comparable drafting platform
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or a comparable equivalent
