Structural Engineer – Field and Design, Entry Level
Moffatt & NicholStructural Engineer handling design and analysis of marine and bridge structures at Moffatt & Nichol. Joining a leading infrastructure firm specializing in waterfront projects.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform analysis, design, and detailing of marine and waterfront structures including bulkheads, wharves, piers, relieving platforms, boat ramps, and seawalls
- Support the design and rehabilitation of bridge and transportation structures, including vehicular and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, and foundations
- Perform bridge load rating analyses using AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) software in accordance with AASHTO LRFR and state DOT requirements
- Assist in the development of load rating reports, calculations, and supporting documentation under supervision of senior engineers
- Prepare design calculations, sketches, and modeling outputs for both marine and bridge structures
- Coordinate plan details with engineers and drafting technicians using MicroStation or AutoCAD
- Collaborate with geotechnical, civil, and electrical disciplines to integrate design and construction requirements
- Participate in field inspections, condition assessments, and construction observation for both bridge and marine structures
- Assist in preparing technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates for design, rehabilitation, and inspection projects
- Perform other duties as requested
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or related discipline; Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred
- Entry to 2 years of intern or industry experience required
- Exposure to marine structural systems such as bulkheads, wharves, piers, or boat ramps preferred
- Basic understanding of AASHTO LRFD/LRFR bridge design and rating principles strongly preferred
- Software proficiency in the following is preferred: AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR), MicroStation, AutoCAD, Finite element analysis software (e.g., STAAD, SAP2000, or similar)
- Travel will be required
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
