About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Troubleshoot, maintain, test, and repair chiller and large-tonnage air conditioning equipment
- Assist with refurbishment, reconditioning, and preparation of rental equipment
- Perform equipment start-ups and pre-deployment testing
- Complete service, testing, and repair documentation accurately
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Support depot, shop, and field operations as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Additional Responsibilities by Level:
- Chiller Technician I (Apprentice): Assist senior technicians with diagnostics, repairs, and testing; Support fabrication and customization of rental equipment; Operate shop equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and saws with training and certification; Occasional travel to customer sites during peak seasons
- Chiller Technician II (Mid-Level): Independently diagnose and repair chiller and HVAC equipment; Support turnkey installations and job-site start-ups; Travel to customer sites for complex installations and service work; Identify and recommend process improvements related to safety, quality, and efficiency
- Chiller Technician III (Senior): Serve as technical expert for chiller and large-tonnage HVAC equipment; Perform advanced diagnostics and complex repairs; Lead pre-deployment testing and quality assurance; Mentor and train junior technicians and service technicians; Support fleet upgrades, remote monitoring initiatives, and turnkey installations
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required
- HVAC or Refrigeration degree or technical certificate preferred for higher-level roles
- Universal EPA Refrigeration Certification required
- Entry Level Chiller Tech I: 1–2+ years of HVAC or mechanical experience
- Chiller Technician II: 3–7+ years of HVAC experience with chiller exposure
- Senior Chiller Technician III: 5–7+ years of hands-on large-tonnage chiller experience
- Strong knowledge of refrigerant systems and HVAC best practices
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office; ERP or rental software preferred)
- Forklift certification required; crane operation experience preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs using safe lifting practices.
