About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation for classroom instruction and school-related activities.
- Facilitate communication between the student, educators, staff, and peers while maintaining interpreter neutrality.
- Collaborate with educational staff to support student access and participation.
- Attend virtual team meetings or IEP meetings as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and professional ethical standards.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- Experience providing interpreting services in K–12 educational settings preferred.
- Strong understanding of educational interpreting practices and the role of the interpreter in schools.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with reliable high-speed internet and appropriate technology.
- Hold a Wyoming Educational Sign Language Interpreter Permit or be eligible to obtain one prior to the start of employment.
- Meet one of the following credential requirements:
- Hold a nationally recognized interpreting certification such as:
- RID Certification (NIC, CI/CT, etc.), or
- BEI Certification, or
- Meet Wyoming's minimum educational interpreter competency requirements, which generally include an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher.
- Candidates who do not currently hold Wyoming credentials but meet eligibility requirements may be supported through the Wyoming licensure process.
- Prior experience interpreting for secondary students in virtual or hybrid learning environments.
- Knowledge of educational terminology and high school coursework.
- Experience working with video remote interpreting platforms.
