About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide strategic leadership and direction for Academic Affairs, aligning academic programs, priorities, and student success initiatives with college and Minnesota State goals
- Lead deans, program directors, faculty, and staff in promoting academic excellence, innovation, collaboration, and an inclusive learning environment
- Oversee Academic Affairs personnel and operations, including recruitment, staffing, performance management, employee development, scheduling, enrollment, and records
- Administer collective bargaining agreements, college policies, and divisional resources
- Lead academic planning, assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts to strengthen programs and improve student retention, completion, and graduation
- Establish and evaluate academic goals and outcomes using data, student feedback, and stakeholder collaboration
- Develop and oversee complex Academic Affairs budgets and allocate resources according to enrollment needs and institutional priorities
- Pursue grants and external funding for academic programs, innovation, and student success
- Serve on the President’s Cabinet and contribute to college-wide decisions involving policies, planning, budgets, programs, and sensitive institutional matters
- Represent the college with Minnesota State and community partners
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, accreditation requirements, policies, agreements, and privacy standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree in education, leadership, an academic discipline, or another related field
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience within academic affairs at a college or university
- At least two years of experience as an academic dean or equivalent, or directing or leading multiple departments or programs
- Experience teaching at the college or university level
- Demonstrated cultural competency
- Demonstrated ability to manage demanding and high-stress situations, multiple priorities, and varied situations simultaneously
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Ability to build trust, teamwork, and cooperation among faculty, administrators, and staff
- Proven commitment to academic excellence
- Ability to lawfully accept employment in the United States
- Doctoral degree in education, leadership, an academic discipline, or another related field (preferred)
- Experience working in a unionized college or university setting (preferred)
- Experience leading innovation and organizational change related to academic programs (preferred)
- Understanding of strategic planning and systematic decision making (preferred)
- Demonstrated success in building and maintaining partnerships (preferred)
- Understanding of diverse identities and needs of community college students (preferred)
- Knowledge of higher education accreditation, FERPA laws, and student records (preferred)
