About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform the full range of court operations work within the Criminal, Traffic, Juvenile, CHIPS, and Family Division
  • Process cases electronically using the electronic case processing system and related applications and equipment
  • Update cases in court, including calling cases, taking minutes, processing courtroom documents, and recording party, document, flag, comment, event, and disposition data
  • Initiate case records using electronic means or paper documents
  • Notify relevant individuals about missing information, documents, or non-compliant legal forms
  • Schedule and maintain court calendars; assign, update, reschedule, and reassign cases
  • Notify parties and attorneys about calendar changes
  • Assist attorneys, parties, self-represented litigants, judges, and the public in person, by phone, mail, and electronically
  • Provide forms, documents, court procedure information, and assistance completing applications and forms
  • Check people in for court and refer complex questions to higher-level staff
  • Attend division/team meetings and trainings and maintain knowledge of court policies, processes, and procedures
  • Use applicable technology, information systems, programs, and office equipment to complete assignments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One year of recent experience in the legal field or highly technical, customer focused, administrative, office, or clerical work
  • Knowledge of court procedures, policies, laws, legal terminology, and legal factors pertaining to the court
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, function, and jurisdiction of the court
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of customer service practices
  • Skill in operating a personal computer, electronic case management system, related applications, and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret legal documents and apply relevant laws, statutes, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to maintain an accurate record filing system
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and files appropriately
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field is nice to have
  • Experience in the legal field or court setting is nice to have
  • Extensive knowledge of court policies, procedures, processes, and terminology is nice to have
  • Experience with MNCIS and EFS is nice to have
