About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations for patients presenting in the Emergency Department
Perform psychiatric admission evaluations
Diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health disorders in an acute care hospital setting
Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, adjusting treatment plans as needed
Create individualized treatment plans including medication management, psychotherapy, and other interventions
Participate in chart audits, peer review, meetings, and provider management
Maintain up-to-date medical records in compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and standards of care
Maintain patient confidentiality and audit files to ensure services are documented
Review patient status to verify treatment and therapeutic programs are completed
Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and staff to provide integrated care
Provide immediate psychiatric care during crises such as suicide attempts or acute psychiatric episodes
Work to prevent incidents through proactive mental health management
Comply with applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards, and contract requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need

Active North Carolina medical license required
2 years of inpatient experience
Trauma experience required
Board Certified or eligible within 1 year of residency completion in Psychiatry
Valid and unrestricted DEA
Proficient in using telemedicine technologies to treat patients remotely
Open to PMHNP collaboration preferred
Evening schedule: 3pm–11pm
Additional Florida and Texas licensure preferred, or compact license (PSYPACT)
