About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations for patients presenting in the Emergency Department
- Perform psychiatric admission evaluations
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health disorders in an acute care hospital setting
- Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, adjusting treatment plans as needed
- Create individualized treatment plans including medication management, psychotherapy, and other interventions
- Participate in chart audits, peer review, meetings, and provider management
- Maintain up-to-date medical records in compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and standards of care
- Maintain patient confidentiality and audit files to ensure services are documented
- Review patient status to verify treatment and therapeutic programs are completed
- Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and staff to provide integrated care
- Provide immediate psychiatric care during crises such as suicide attempts or acute psychiatric episodes
- Work to prevent incidents through proactive mental health management
- Comply with applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards, and contract requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Active North Carolina medical license required
- 2 years of inpatient experience
- Trauma experience required
- Board Certified or eligible within 1 year of residency completion in Psychiatry
- Valid and unrestricted DEA
- Proficient in using telemedicine technologies to treat patients remotely
- Open to PMHNP collaboration preferred
- Evening schedule: 3pm–11pm
- Additional Florida and Texas licensure preferred, or compact license (PSYPACT)
