About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee building and grounds maintenance and upkeep
  • Develop and implement strategic planning for the McGuffey House and Museum
  • Manage its annual budget and identify strategic needs
  • Develop collections plan/policy and oversee acquisitions and deaccessioning
  • Document and manage museum collections through database
  • Research and disseminate knowledge relevant to the museum’s mission
  • Supervise, manage, and train student employees, interns, and museum volunteers
  • Engage with in person and virtual visitors through the museum’s website and social media
  • Implement museum and collections policies and procedures
  • Work independently and as part of a team to design, create, and deliver educational programs
  • Engage with faculty, staff, students, university guests and visiting researchers
  • Attend special events outside of regular office hours

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Library Science or Museum Studies, Education, Art History, or a related arts or humanities field
  • Experience in a museum, library or archive, historic house or historical society, educational institution, or non-profit institution
  • Experience in management of collections and/or archives
  • Experience in digitization best practices
  • Familiarity with CRM systems
  • Minimum 2 years working in a museum, library or archive, historic house or historical society, educational institution, or non-profit institution
  • Demonstrated success in grant-writing
  • Effective working relationships with a variety of representatives
  • Basic computer proficiency (email, data entry, Google Suite or Microsoft Office)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to perform essential job functions that require mobility within the facility.
