About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Formulate and suggest workplace safety standards and enforce procedures
- Identify and prevent risks involving hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, and other unsafe conditions
- Meet compliance and reporting requirements of federal and state regulations
- Provide new employee safety training and coordinate the ongoing employee safety training program
- Develop and maintain the College’s written safety plan
- Direct activities of the safety committee
- Assist supervisors with identifying, developing, and delivering safety training on workplace safety, fire safety, blood borne disease, electrical, mechanical, vehicle, confined space safety, and first aid/CPR
- Identify and provide appropriate personal protective equipment for employees
- Evaluate workplace safety hazards and recommend preventive measures
- Coordinate hazardous material disposal and maintain documentation of safety training, budget expenditures, and other records
- Assist with technical interpretation of local, state, and federal rules, regulations, laws, and codes
- Submit required safety and environmental reports to city, state, and federal agencies
- Serve as a professional and technical workplace safety resource to the College and community
- Participate in reviews of equipment purchases to ensure safeguards and regulatory compliance
- Maintain AEDs, first aid kits, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, and safety signage at MCC sites
- Stay current on laws and regulations affecting the College
- Attend scheduled or assigned work activities and programs
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree
- Three (3) years of full-time, work-related experience in workplace safety
- Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered
- Working knowledge of applicable OSHA standards and generally acceptable safety practices
- Knowledge of laws and requirements regarding employee safety committees and employer safety responsibilities
- Knowledge of emerging trends in workplace safety
- Excellent organization and record keeping skills
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office and Windows software
- Planning and organizational skills
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate safety requirements in terms understood by all employees
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively present to large and small groups
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and understanding in stressful situations
- Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities
- Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or position responsibilities
- Must pass background check
