About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build a strong working relationship with the college advisor and act as a unified support team for applicants
Evaluate high school students’ candidacy for BS/MD programs using GPA, SAT/ACT scores, coursework, extracurricular activities, and experiences
Edit BS/MD personal statements and supplemental essays
Collaborate with applicants to create customized BS/MD school lists aligned with their candidacy, goals, and preferences
Prepare students for admissions interviews
Advise students throughout the application process through check-ins, editing, and timeline/deadline management
Manage family expectations and involve families in supporting the student
Help students develop personal responsibility and manage their work
Provide expertise and guidance on application questions and situations
Manage multiple clients concurrently through completion of their package or service, potentially for more than a year
Provide hands-on, comprehensive support and constructive, age-appropriate feedback
Build trusting and positive relationships with students and families

Requirements

What you’ll need

MD or DO physician; attending preferred, residents and fellows considered
Required successful graduation from a U.S. direct medical program: BS/MD, BA/MD, BS/DO, or BA/DO
Firsthand knowledge of the BS/MD or BS/DO admissions process
Experience mentoring or advising students applying to medical school or direct medical programs
Admissions committee experience strongly preferred
Strong editing and writing skills, particularly with college and BS/MD application materials
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with high school students and their families
High emotional intelligence and professionalism
Comfort managing multiple students throughout an application cycle
Proficiency with Zoom, Google Meet, and other online collaboration tools
Reliable Internet connection
Access to Microsoft Word
Ability to commit to clients until their package or service is complete, potentially upwards of a year
Ability to work with multiple clients simultaneously
Sensitivity to the emotional needs of students and families
Ability to provide age-appropriate, constructive feedback and guidance
