About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the full design flow from client brief to permit-ready package across the 16', 20', and 24' timber-frame form factors
Translate placemaker, developer, and end-client briefs into Camphomes schemes
Develop schemes into complete design documentation packages
Produce fabrication-ready shop drawings in coordination with the Head of Manufacturing
Produce jurisdiction-compliant permit documentation for projects in Nicaragua, Panama, and eventually beyond
Manage coordination with external structural engineers
Build Camphomes’ AI-augmented design system using parametric models, configurable modules, automated schematic generation, and template-driven documentation
Identify, build, deploy, and iterate AI agents for design-pipeline automation
Establish quality control, review, validation, and exception-handling systems for automated outputs
Partner with the Chief Craftsman to define and build the future design-production process
Build and lead the Managua-based design team
Define roles and operating processes for human judgment, craft decisions, and exception handling
Establish a distributed-capable operating model and enable future remote specialist hiring
Report to the Chief Craftsman and work as a peer to the Head of Manufacturing within the company’s operating core

Requirements

What you’ll need

10–20 years of experience in architectural practice or architectural technology
Meaningful experience in prefab, modular, panelized, or productized housing, or design-technology leadership in computational design
Proven track record of productizing a design process and reshaping studio workflows around it
Hands-on AI experience beyond consumer chat, including API-level work with Claude, GPT, or similar
Experience with or clear understanding of agent frameworks
Understanding of what is reliably automatable today
Experience with semi-custom-within-a-system housing products is a strong signal
Deep fluency in Revit and Rhino/Grasshopper
Comfort with Dynamo
Ability to read and ideally write Python; Python is an advantage
Working knowledge of structural design principles sufficient for credible conversations with engineers
Experience with BIM-to-fabrication workflows and understanding of how design decisions affect a factory floor
Comfort operating at the API layer of modern AI tools
Familiarity with Claude, GPT, LangChain, or similar
Understanding of prompt engineering, evaluation, and agent orchestration
Systems-thinking mindset and ability to identify opportunities for automation
Comfort with ambiguity
Genuine enthusiasm for AI as a design tool
Deep respect for craft and craft practitioners
Spanish fluency preferred; all work and systems will be carried out in English
Willingness to be based in or rotate heavily through Managua for at least the first 18–24 months
