Domestic Violence Counselor

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Facilitate group and individual sessions for participants, ensuring a safe and supportive environment that encourages open communication and personal reflection.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of participants to identify their needs, motivations, and barriers to change.
- Develop and implement tailored intervention strategies that address the unique circumstances of each participant while adhering to the best practices in domestic violence intervention.
- Monitor participant progress and provide ongoing feedback, support, and accountability throughout the program.
- Collaborate with community resources and partner organizations to ensure comprehensive support for participants, including referrals to additional services as needed.
- Assist with counseling and support services for Maze of Life’s Reentry Program, helping individuals successfully reintegrate after incarceration or other transitions.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of participant attendance, progress, and outcomes in compliance with legal and organizational guidelines.
- Attend regular training and professional development sessions to stay informed of the latest research, methodologies, and best practices in domestic violence intervention.
- Actively participate in team meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of program delivery and participant outcomes.
- Cross-train in various departmental functions to enhance operational flexibility and support team efficiency.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 2 years of direct experience working with individuals affected by domestic violence, preferably in a facilitative or therapeutic capacity.
- 40-hour domestic violence training.
- Certification or training in domestic violence prevention and intervention, specifically in Partner Abuse Intervention Programs (PAIP) or Batterers Intervention Prevention Program (BIPP) preferred.
- Strong understanding of domestic violence issues, trauma-informed care, and intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with a diverse clientele.
- Proven ability to facilitate group discussions and manage group dynamics effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate documentation.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in the field of domestic violence intervention.
