About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the monthly close, GAAP financials, and accounting governance
  • Oversee and bring the accounting function in-house
  • Manage accounting for R&D, tape-out costs, manufacturing, inventory, and NREs
  • Oversee payroll, treasury, cash management, and bank reconciliations
  • Produce board- and investor-ready financial reporting
  • Plan ERP readiness and transition as the company outgrows QuickBooks Online
  • Own Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Treasury, Fixed Assets, and Project Accounting
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure GAAP-compliant financial statements
  • Manage outsourced accounting providers and transition work in-house
  • Design and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Serve as primary accounting owner for audits, reviews, and investor diligence
  • Own tax compliance and reporting, including R&D tax credit eligibility
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations on semiconductor cost accounting, inventory, manufacturing, and export-control accounting
  • Own inventory accounting, standard costing, reserves, and physical inventory processes
  • Manage foreign currency exposure and coordinate hedging strategy
  • Prepare reporting packages, dashboards, KPIs, variance analysis, and Board materials
  • Perform ROI, NPV, breakeven, and cost-to-scale analyses
  • Own revenue recognition under ASC 606 and equity/stock-based compensation accounting under ASC 718
  • Support lender reporting and covenant compliance
  • Lead accounting process improvements, ERP selection, and future migration
  • Manage accounting and compliance reporting for government grants and incentive programs
  • Coordinate insurance and risk management
  • Build and lead the internal accounting team as the company scales

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active CPA and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or equivalent)
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on close ownership
  • Expertise in cost accounting, R&D capitalization, accruals, and inventory accounting
  • Strong understanding of payroll, treasury, bank reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Experience accounting for tangible, manufactured products; hardware, semiconductor, or complex supply-chain experience strongly preferred
  • Experience scaling accounting operations from early stage through growth
  • Experience supporting audits, investor diligence, and fundraising processes
  • Strong experience with QuickBooks Online and ERP transition
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity and build accounting structures and processes from the ground up
  • Ability to present complex financial information clearly to executives and investors
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must work from MatX’s Mountain View offices Tuesdays–Thursdays
  • Must comply with applicable U.S. export-control laws without obtaining a license
