About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently manage estate administration, probate, and trust settlement cases from start to finish
- Prepare and file Massachusetts estate tax returns, Federal estate tax returns, and gift tax returns (706/709)
- Prepare, review, and submit probate forms and court documents
- Obtain date-of-death valuations and required documentation for estate tax returns and settlement processes
- Oversee ongoing trust administration cases
- Handle trust and estate accounting duties
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, courts, and third parties
- Lead client meetings independently
- Deliver exceptional client service
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 3 years of dedicated experience in probate and trust settlement required
- Demonstrated experience with Massachusetts estate tax returns, Federal estate tax returns, and the transfer tax system
- Active bar admission in Massachusetts required
- Juris Doctor required
- Experience drafting probate and trust documents preferred
- Experience preparing estate, trust, and individual income tax returns preferred
- Estate and trust accounting background preferred
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a client-first approach
- Thoughtful, diligent, highly organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented
- Ability to handle a large caseload, prioritize multitasking, and work effectively independently and collaboratively
- Comfort with complex transfer tax systems and financial records related to estates and trusts
- Ability to reliably commute to or relocate to Quincy, MA before starting work
- Experience with Clio or a similar case management system
- Experience completing and submitting MassHealth applications
- Experience working with the court system, including probate court forms, court filings, and communication with court staff
- Experience with the registry of deeds, including recording documents or researching property ownership information
