About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the primary point of contact for fixed equipment integrity issues, including pressure vessels and piping circuits
- Ensure fixed equipment complies with state regulations, refining standards, and company specifications
- Identify, communicate, and collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to mitigate mechanical integrity risks
- Conduct hands-on field inspections to evaluate area equipment condition
- Plan, perform, and direct inspections and recommend mitigation measures for equipment requiring repair or replacement
- Conduct jurisdictional inspections on CAL/OSHA-regulated equipment, such as boilers
- Maintain accurate equipment files and collaborate with the RBI Analyst to keep risk assessments current
- Develop scope and supporting documentation for mechanical integrity work, including routine maintenance, major repairs, and turnarounds
- Complete assigned Management of Change (MOC) and INTELEX tasks
- Document “as-found” and “as-left” conditions to support risk-based work planning
- Partner with engineering and area teams on equipment reliability projects
- Assist with life cycle cost analysis, root cause analysis, HAZOPs, equipment history reviews, and risk-based work selection
- Participate in required training programs
- Serve as Program Manager for specialty mechanical-integrity projects and programs
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED, completed prior to start date
- At least 5 years of Area Inspection experience in a refinery or petrochemical facility
- Current API 510 certification
- Current API 570 certification
- Ability to obtain NBIC Certification and State of California Certificate of Competency
- Familiarity with Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies in accordance with API 580 and 581
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirator
- Ability to perform physical tasks in the field
- Successfully pass a hair drug test and physical examination
- Valid driver’s license
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship
- Willingness to travel up to 5%
- Ability to work Monday–Thursday onsite, 10-hour shifts, with core hours of 6:00 AM–4:30 PM
- Availability for extended work hours, on-call support 5 full weeks per year, turnarounds, and planned and unplanned outages
- Preferred: At least 5 years as an owner/operator inspector focusing on fixed equipment
- Preferred: NBIC Certification and State of California Certificate of Competency with relevant experience
- Preferred: API 510 and API 570 certifications with at least 10 years of inspection experience
- Preferred: API 653, API 571, API 580, API 581, and NBIC standards knowledge
- Preferred: ASNT Level II methods, including UTT, RTFI, MT, and PT
- Preferred: Turnaround planning and execution experience
- Preferred: Meridium, APM, or PCMS experience
- Preferred: Fixed equipment maintenance according to RAGAGEP
