About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as global medical lead and medical monitor for early phase studies, including first-in-human, proof-of-concept, mechanistic, and indication-expansion trials
  • Lead study concepts and protocol design, including patient populations, clinical and biomarker endpoints, and mechanistic sub-studies
  • Provide medical oversight, including eligibility review, safety monitoring, dose decision-making, and emerging-data interpretation
  • Partner with Clinical Operations and CROs on high-quality execution, timely data delivery, and inspection-readiness
  • Define and own translational strategies from preclinical through late-stage development
  • Integrate pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, biomarker, imaging, and clinical outcome data to inform dose/regimen selection
  • Oversee clinical biomarker plans and biospecimen banking and downstream analysis
  • Chair or co-chair early asset teams and translational working groups
  • Partner cross-functionally on integrated development strategy
  • Provide clinical and mechanistic input into development, regulatory, publication, and presentation documents
  • Present program and mechanistic work to governance forums, Executive Team, Board, and external scientific audiences
  • Build relationships with external experts and lead or co-lead academic and consortium collaborations
  • Represent Madrigal at scientific and medical conferences
  • Mentor junior physicians and PhD scientists
  • Help evolve the Translational Medicine operating model and interfaces with Research and Clinical Development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • MD with clinical training in a relevant specialty, such as hepatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, cardiology, or internal medicine, or equivalent
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience in clinical development
  • Demonstrable leadership of early-phase interventional trials
  • Strong track record in translational medicine and biomarker-driven development
  • Experience in metabolic liver or cardiometabolic disease strongly preferred
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies on early development and biomarker topics highly desirable
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence without authority, and operate effectively in a growing, evolving organization
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex mechanistic concepts to researchers, clinicians, executives, and board members
