About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support distribution design/engineering of projects implemented among clients in multiple states
- Produce electric distribution field designs and staking of distribution facilities
- Prepare project estimates and construction prints using electronic design/estimation software
- Meet with property owners, engineering firms, and construction resources while representing M&S and client standards
- Stay current with technologies, work planning, and design methodologies for electric distribution design
- Develop detailed scoping and engineering plans in accordance with client construction standards
- Initiate designs for construction or reconstruction of overhead and underground distribution facilities from 4kV through 35kV
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and timely completion of work products
- Incorporate subject matter expert input from project management, DOC, data maintenance, planning, operations, and transmission
- Resolve technical engineering conflicts affecting cost, schedule, quality, or customer satisfaction
- Mentor and train staff members on design knowledge
- Integrate safety, reliability, operability, constructability, and configuration management practices into final products and processes
- Work outdoors for extended hours, perform staking across varied terrain, and travel including overnight stays
- Apply NESC requirements and electric utility best practices to distribution line design
- Interpret property boundary, topographic, as-built, construction staking, ROW staking, and geospatial data
- Support permit acquisition procedures involving TxDOT, city, county, state, and federal applications
- Use surveying equipment and gather geospatial points when applicable
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Current Texas driver's license with an insurable driving record
- Competence using MicroStation
- Associates degree or certificate in Electric Power Technology preferred, with one year of experience
- Alternatively, three years of prior experience with electric distribution design and estimation preferred
- Knowledge of major underground electrical design and construction
- Familiarity with the NESC and its applications to electric distribution line design
- Familiarity with operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems
- Familiarity with joint construction and electric utility best practices
- Ability to interpret property line boundaries, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, construction staking, ROW staking, and geospatial points preferred
- Familiarity with permit acquisition procedures involving TxDOT, city, county, state, and federal applications
- Proficiency with a laptop and MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word
- Strong time management, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills and effective oral and written communication
- Ability to work outdoors for extended hours, walk, carry staking materials, and travel including overnight stays
