About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide planning, supervision, and documentation for heavy civil construction, including roads, highways, drainage, utilities, and site development
- Lead safety, scheduling, workforce planning, coordination, supervision, and cost control
- Directly supervise and coordinate field Foremen in highway construction
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, sequence, and monitor procurement and construction activities with the Project Manager
- Direct project personnel regarding professional standards, work quality, performance, and accountability
- Review drawings, specifications, and subcontractor submittals
- Monitor and manage project budgets and authorize expenditures with the Project Manager
- Coordinate with site foremen to identify and resolve scheduling conflicts, needs, and deficiencies involving crews and subcontractors
- Ensure coordination of construction activities
- Communicate safety policies and procedures and identify crew safety-training needs
- Assess foremen and employee competency and capability
- Recognize and address issues and problems and provide effective resolutions
Requirements
What you’ll need- BS or AS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent preferred
- 3 years’ experience as a Superintendent in highway construction
- 7+ years of hands-on highway construction experience
- Knowledge of mass earth movement, large dirt excavations, grading operations, hauling and placement of transported materials, sediment controls, and utility construction preferred
- Knowledge of highway construction project scope and objectives
- Ability to read and understand plans
- Strong knowledge and experience interpreting drawings and project specifications
- Experience scheduling and planning highway construction work
- Previous experience operating excavators, dozers, backhoes, and other construction equipment strongly preferred
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Experience working in a team environment
