About the role
- Partner with business functions to identify a small number of high-leverage workflows where automation can drive outsized impact, rather than spreading effort across many low-value tasks.
- Build and extend reusable automation workflows that connect internal tools and APIs, with a focus on supporting internal business operations.
- Maximize native features in 3rd party tools like Rippling, Salesforce, Slack, and/or Gitlab to improve efficiency and reduce the need for custom development.
- Enable internal self-serve tools and workflows for developers and business users alike, using established patterns and templates.
- Contribute to a growing automation platform by turning successful one-off solutions into reusable patterns that can be applied across teams with minimal incremental effort.
- Serve as the technical owner for cross-functional automation initiatives, bringing engineering rigor to internal tooling.
- Layer AI tools and copilots onto existing infrastructure to empower non-engineers to build, automate, and operate with confidence, establishing guardrails that ensure security, compliance, and maintainability at scale.
- Track and communicate the impact of automation efforts using practical metrics (e.g., time saved, cycle time reduction, error reduction), helping the organization understand what’s working and why.
- Help keep teams informed about available automations and self-serve capabilities through documentation, examples, and occasional enablement sessions.
Requirements
- 4+ years in automation engineering, systems engineering, internal tooling, or related technical roles with a strong focus on reducing manual effort.
- Experience building production-grade automation that interacts with real systems (APIs, webhooks, event-driven workflows), not just local scripts.
- Experience designing infrastructure-as-code and reusable automation patterns that scale across teams and tools.
- Confidently engaging directly with stakeholders to surface pain points, define success metrics, and deliver high-impact automation aligned to business priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver usable, documented internal tooling with minimal overhead and long-term maintainability.
- Strong prioritization instincts; able to assess and balance competing needs using sound judgment to drive outcomes that maximize value and reduce operational drag.
- Proven ability to operate independently, navigating ambiguity, building cross-functional relationships, and self-prioritizing work without constant direction.
- Familiarity with tools or systems that can act on behalf of users (e.g., workflow engines, assistants, or API-driven automation).
