About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, coach, and develop a team of two DevOps engineers
- Own the health and maturity of the DevOps function, including infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, and release processes
- Define and execute a DevOps roadmap aligned with engineering and business goals
- Partner with software engineers to improve developer experience and deployment reliability
- Strengthen infrastructure as code, automation standards, and operational runbooks
- Oversee production operations, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and root cause analysis
- Drive reliability, availability, backup and recovery readiness, and disaster recovery planning
- Guide secure infrastructure and delivery practices with security and engineering leadership
- Manage and optimize AWS usage for scalability, resilience, and cost
- Track and report operational metrics such as deployment frequency, change failure rate, availability, mean time to recovery, and cloud spend
- Evaluate tooling and vendor choices for a small engineering organization
- Support future hiring and growth of the DevOps function
- Use AI coding assistants and automation tools in daily workflows
- Report to the VP Engineering
- Collaborate with software engineering, QA, security, leadership, and non-technical stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6+ years in DevOps, platform, SRE, or infrastructure engineering
- 2+ years leading engineers directly or serving as technical lead for a small DevOps/platform team
- Strong hands-on AWS production experience
- Experience building and improving CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code
- Proven experience operating production systems with focus on reliability, observability, and incident response
- Experience with cloud security fundamentals, secrets management, identity and access control, and secure deployment practices
- Strong working knowledge of Linux, networking fundamentals, and shell-based troubleshooting
- Experience scripting or software development in Python, Bash, or similar languages
- Ability to review and refine AI-generated code or configuration using sound engineering judgment
- Clear communication skills and ability to work across engineering, leadership, and non-technical stakeholders
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
- Must pass a standard background check/drug test
- Preferred: healthcare or regulated-environment experience
- Preferred: serverless AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, EventBridge, RDS, or Aurora
- Preferred: AWS CDK, Terraform, or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling
- Preferred: compliance-minded engineering practices
- Preferred: developer experience improvement for small engineering teams
- Preferred: PostgreSQL, application performance monitoring, and AWS cost optimization
- Preferred: AI-assisted development tools and workflows
- Preferred: remote engineering team support and cross-time-zone operational coordination
