About the role

  • As Head of the Traded Risk department, you will shape the 2nd Line of Defense for the control of market price, liquidity and counterparty risks at group level.
  • You are responsible for a modern, proactive risk control function — from risk appetite and methodology through models and platforms to reporting, stress testing and governance — working closely with Treasury, Financial Markets and the central governance bodies.
  • Continuous development of the organizational structure and staff to establish a modern, proactive risk control function.
  • In addition to disciplinary and technical leadership, as Head of the department you are responsible for the further development and implementation of the strategic target operating models for market price, liquidity and counterparty risk control.
  • Management and further development of risk models for liquidity risk and close cooperation with those responsible for market risk models.
  • Management and further development of the platform for limiting and monitoring counterparty and country risks.
  • Ensuring correct market prices for the daily valuation of risk positions and execution of the IPV (Independent Price Verification) process.
  • Further development of analyses of trading and investment books, including reporting and stress testing of the material risk drivers.
  • Preparation and presentation of the risk appetite for market, liquidity and counterparty risks.
  • Integration of risk control into the New Product Process (NPP) and support for significant transactions.
  • Coordination of risk control teams in Stuttgart and in foreign branches.
  • Successful management and implementation of ongoing projects and initiation of new initiatives to further develop risk control.
  • Close collaboration with other departments within Risk Control, the corporate steering units and relevant front-office and middle-office units.
  • Central point of contact for Risk Control for the First Line (in particular Treasury and Financial Markets) and for Internal Audit.
  • Participation in internal governance bodies (ALCO, Product Approval Committee, Risk Committee) as well as in external working groups and associations.
  • Cooperation with supervisory authorities and external auditors.

Requirements

  • University degree in business administration, economics, (financial) mathematics or a comparable qualification.
  • Extensive knowledge of the current regulatory environment and broad experience in bank management with a focus on capital markets risks.
  • Solid experience working with external auditors and supervisory authorities in the context of audits and financial statements.
  • Several years of experience in managing and monitoring market price risks in the trading book and banking book, liquidity risks and counterparty risks.
  • Proven track record in implementing complex projects.
  • Strong conceptual skills and enthusiasm for strategic development, operational implementation and solution-oriented work.
  • Analytical, structured, strategic and networked thinking as well as commercial/business acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with a strong understanding of team members in the area as well as interfaces and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to actively and purposefully drive a change process in risk control and, as a leader, to support, motivate and actively involve employees.
  • Several years of leadership experience and/or proven leadership aptitude.
  • Several years of experience within an international banking organisation.
  • Very good German and English language skills.
