About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct research and draft evidence-based and authoritative policy papers on policy topics that are a priority for the Law Society.
  • Develop proposals for law reform, underpinned by credible arguments, that are reflective of the public interest and the interests of members of the Law Society.
  • Monitor developments in the external environment.
  • Play a key role in advancing specific policy issues as may be assigned.
  • Forge a strong and collaborative working relationship with members of Committees of the Law Society.
  • Engage with the Council of the Law Society, the Director of Policy, and also colleagues in the Policy Department, including colleagues at the Centre for Justice and Law Reform.
  • Engage with policy makers, non-governmental organisations and other key stakeholders on matters of concern to the Law Society.
  • Engage with other Law Societies and professional bodies on policy issues.
  • Draft policy-related communications for the President and Director General.
  • Serve as Secretary to a Law Society Committee or Task Force.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Policy from time to time.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A third-level qualification in law, politics, business and law or similar is required.
  • A professional qualification would be desirable.
  • At least two years relevant experience in public affairs, policy development or experience as a political advisor or Parliamentary Assistant.
  • A strong understanding of the policy development and legislative processes in Ireland and the European Union.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Solution-oriented, highly collaborative and self-motivated.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • A track record of success in handling competing demands.
