About the role
- Responsible for the administration of Websphere MQ (WMQ) subsystems and associated software on the client’s mainframes.
- Install, test, configure and implement mainframe WMQ and associated system software while maintaining a stable operating system environment for business applications.
- Perform WMQ system backups and recovery
- Monitors system activity for performance and availability and where necessary, tune accordingly
- Perform problem diagnosis and resolution.
- Create, maintain and use automation scripts for MQ for z/OS monitoring, alerting and problem determination and resolution
- Design and Implement security aspects related to MQ.
- Architect/Design Clustering, workload balancing in client environment
- Troubleshoot Infrastructure and Application issues related to MQ
- Evaluate and recommend changes to current and future system software requirements to meet the organization's needs.
- Ensure documentation of all related operational processes and procedures.
- Install and upgrade MQ for z/OS using Shopz Series and SMP/E
- Troubleshoot MQ problems using MQ command line and monitoring tools
- Provide primary and backup on-call support during extended hours (including nights and weekends).
- Install and configure z/OS Connect EE on z/OS and apply maintenance (PTFs).
- Troubleshoot connectivity and runtime issues.
- Deploy API bundles to z/OS Connect server.
- Integrate z/OS Connect with z/OS subsystems.
- Configure connection to CICS/IMS/Db2 regions.
- Set up API Gateway integration.
- Create JSON schemas and request/response mappings.
- Configure network and middleware (TCP/IP, Liberty profile).
- Apply security exits and customizations.
Requirements
- 7 to 9 Years of experience as a Mainframe MQ System Programmer supporting enterprise-level z/OS environments.
- Expert-level knowledge of IBM MQ for z/OS installation, configuration, and upgrades using ShopzSeries and SMP/E.
- Strong troubleshooting expertise using MQ command line utilities and mainframe monitoring tools.
- Deep understanding of MQ security configurations, RACF integration, CHLAUTH rules, and TLS/SSL encryption.
- Ability to install, configure, and maintain WebSphere MQ (WMQ) and related system software on z/OS.
- Experience performing system backups, recovery, and diagnosing complex MQ issues.
- Ensure MQ environments meet security and compliance standards, implementing best practices.
- Experience designing and maintaining MQ clustering and workload balancing for high availability and reliability.
- Ensuring High Availability and performance objectives, as required by customers and management are maintained for operating systems and for software components
- Experience setting up, implementing and troubleshooting clusters and queue sharing groups
- Administration using IBM and Independent Software Vendor products
