About the role
- Lead revenue accounting close procedures: establish and follow controls, prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, conduct analysis and ensure accuracy and compliance
- Prepare and review balance sheet account reconciliations; provide feedback and support to resolve reconciling items and standardize reconciliations
- Prepare various month end journal entries; Revenue, Deferred Revenue
- Perform monthly revenue analyses including revenue trending, customer analysis, and documentation of variances
- Partner closely with customer success team to provide revenue guidance for contract structuring and ensure application of ASC 606
- Manage customer questions and requests via email inbox
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build accounting processes that support business initiatives
- Execute day-to-day revenue accounting operations and review customer contracts for accurate accounting
- Assess accounting processes and systems for improvement; recommend and implement new processes or system changes
- Play a key role in the team’s internal continuous improvement initiatives
- Participate in projects (automation of customer pricing, conversion to Sage SEI for financial reporting)
- Support Assistant Controller and Controller as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- CPA certification is a plus
- 5+ years in finance and accounting experience, with a strong background in revenue accounting
- Experience managing revenue recognition for a medium sized company with multiple products and complex contracts
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft tools
- Advanced level Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas, data analysis)
- Experience with Sage 300 or other similar multi-entity integrated accounting software
- Experience with report writing within SEI (Sage Enterprise Intelligence) or similar software
- Experience applying ASC 606 revenue recognition standards in a professional setting
- Well organized, proactive, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced quickly changing environment
- Ability to adhere to highest standards of confidentiality and discretion in all proprietary business, financial, and employee matters
- Excellent understanding of English, both written and verbal; ability to communicate professionally and courteously
- Ability to maintain open, direct, positive, and objective lines of communication with management
