About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Act as a trusted, neutral HR advisor for managers and employees in Japan
- Coach managers on performance management and feedback conversations, employee retention, conduct and interpersonal challenges
- Interpretation and application of HR policies
- Provide employees guidance where local knowledge, language, and cultural context are essential
- Identify patterns, risks, and emerging issues, and partner with HRBPs to address them
- Own and coordinate HR work with local language requirements
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for Japan benefits and global mobility
- Identify local legislative or regulatory requirements that require updates to HR policies
- Support HR Business Partners with talent review calibration facilitation, engagement survey insights & local action planning
- Act as the Japan conduit for DEI initiatives and leadership development & learning programs
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with strong manager and employee advisory capability
- Deep understanding of Japanese labour law, employment practices, and cultural norms
- Proven ability to build trust and credibility with managers and employees
- Experience translating global HR programs into effective local execution
- Strong judgment, discretion, and comfort operating without formal decision authority
- Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English
