About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with Company policy and D.O.T. regulations
  • Operate company vehicles safely and follow all traffic laws
  • Actively participates in daily safety briefings
  • Follows all required safety policies and procedures
  • Operate Grapple and magnet to move, stage, load/unload railroad materials
  • Ensure that specifications, knowledge of weights and procedures for material handling are in place prior to commencing work
  • Works with hydraulic tools, welding, cutting with torches, electrical tools and common hand tools in accomplishment of work assignments
  • Maintains daily job reporting of production
  • Continuously monitors equipment/vehicles to minimize downtime and to ensure operational readiness
  • Maintains vehicles/equipment to ensure that they are cleaned of debris/trash, tools and equipment are organized and that the vehicle/equipment presents the level of quality our customers expect
  • Work well and communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively and safely

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A valid Class A CDL or Class B CDL
  • Experience driving a manual transmission commercial vehicle
  • At least one year of experience operating a grapple truck with hi-rail gear
  • Previous relevant railroad experience
  • Clean driving record (no serious traffic violations or DUIs)
  • Clear a background check and pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must pass training courses prior to beginning employment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders
