About the role

  • Infrastructure as Code: Provision production, staging, and development environments using Terraform to ensure standardization.
  • Data Reliability: Ensure availability and performance of spatial databases and high-speed caches.
  • Pipeline Automation: Build CI/CD pipelines for microservice deployments and automate data schema migrations.
  • Data Observability: Implement monitoring focused not only on infrastructure (CPU/RAM) but also on data health (ingestion lag, transformation failures, integrity of geo files).
  • Performance & Cost Optimization: Monitor resource consumption (FinOps) and propose architectures that reduce data egress and long-term storage costs.
  • Security: Implement IAM policies, secrets management (Secret Manager/KMS), and network isolation (VPC).

Requirements

  • GCP: Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud SQL (PostGIS), BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Functions.
  • AWS: ECS/Fargate, EKS, RDS Aurora (PostGIS), Redshift/Athena, S3, and Lambda.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advanced mastery of Terraform (essential to ensure cloud portability).
  • Databases: Administration and tuning of PostgreSQL with PostGIS extension.
  • Containers: Docker and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • CI/CD: Experience with Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
  • Cache & Messaging: Redis (Memorystore or ElastiCache) and messaging systems (Pub/Sub or SQS/SNS).
  • Desired: Familiarity with storage behavior of scientific file formats (GRIB2, NetCDF, HDF5) and tile formats (MBTiles, Zarr).
  • Data Orchestration: Experience with Apache Airflow (Cloud Composer or MWAA).
  • Scripting: Advanced Python for infrastructure automation and data maintenance tasks.
  • Networking: CDN configuration and load balancing for high-speed map tile delivery.
  • Official Certifications: Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer or AWS Certified Data Analytics.
  • Prior experience in the electrical, meteorological, or environmental sectors.
  • Expertise in advanced partitioning and spatial indexing techniques in PostGIS.
  • Familiarity with geospatial visualization tools (Mapbox, Leaflet, GeoServer).
