About the role

  • Conducts joint comprehensive on-site record audits of natural gas pipeline systems for compliance with CFR 49, Part 192 and the Illinois Pipeline Safety Act.
  • Verbally communicates and documents all findings of apparent violations to gas system operators.
  • Prepares and enters into the Pipeline database detailed written reports of all field activities, including documentation of any apparent violations found.
  • Completes all required courses offered by T&Q, as they become available, attaining a minimum score of 70% on course certificates.
  • Assists with planning and scheduling assigned inspection activities of all natural gas systems.
  • Assists with the investigation of incidents as defined by CFR Title 49, Part 191.3.
  • Participates in and conducts training programs for natural gas system operators.
  • Provides expert witness testimony on gas pipeline safety issues and enforcement issues.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which is reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, preferably in engineering or similar field; or the following experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree: five (5) years of natural gas operations experience or completion of the six (6) basic PHSMA T&Q classes identified below may be substituted for degree requirements.

  • PL 0150 – Introduction to Pipeline Safety Inspections
  • PL1250 – Safety Evaluation of Gas Pipeline Systems Course
  • PL1255 – Gas Pressure Regulation & Overpressure Protection Course
  • PL1310 – Plastic and Composite Material Course
  • PL3242 – Welding and Welding Inspection of Pipeline Materials Course
  • PL3293 – Corrosion Control of Pipeline Systems Course
  • In order to advance to the targeted title, Pipeline Safety Trainees are required to achieve a score of at least 70% on each part of a test administered by the Pipeline Safety Supervisor which tests general pipeline safety knowledge and how well the candidate conducts and finds issues in a mock audit.
  • Prefer ten (10) years of natural gas operations experience.
  • Prefers superior oral and written English communication skills.
  • Prefers and extensive knowledge of the personal computer and its related software programs and applications.
