About the role

  • Provides technical Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) expertise to PCC producers and district construction staff
  • Troubleshoots and remedies PCC issues in real time
  • Ensures all PCC work is inspected in accordance with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) policies and specifications
  • Provides technical recommendations to the Mixtures Control Engineer
  • Trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience OR eight years of engineering experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of highway and bridge construction practices
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office software
  • Working knowledge of the Construction and Materials Management System (CMMS)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel extensively within the district and occasionally statewide
  • Certification in Aggregate Technician (Mixtures Aggregate Technician plus 2-day upgrade or 5-day Aggregate Technician), PCC I, PCC II, and ACI I
  • Recertification, if required by certifying body, is also required
  • Certification in PCC III OR the ability to become certified within 12 months of hire
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary
  • Successful completion of a background screening
