About the role
- Directing consulting firms in the analysis and evaluation of structural designs
- Directing consulting firms in the development and preparation of bridge and structural plans
- Overseeing the timely review and approval of construction submittals
- Investigating and providing solutions to construction problems associated with change of conditions, contract errors, or plan errors
- Ensuring that all bridge structures designed are compatible with correct structural theory and applicable standards, specifications, and policies
- Organizing, coordinating, and monitoring the efforts of the Bridge Design and Review Unit to assure the efficient and timely completion of all projects
- Motivating, evaluating, and developing subordinates to maintain a high level of employee morale and work performance and ensuring compliance with department safety rules, policies, and procedures
Requirements
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer and Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois
- Eight years of experience in civil engineering
- Three years supervising staff and managing engineering functions
- Experience with bridge design and plan preparation (preferred)
- Experience with bridge construction and structural construction submittals (preferred)
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff (preferred)
- Strong oral and written communication skills (preferred)
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires occasional statewide travel with overnight stays.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
