About the role
- Oversees the preparation of contract plans on in-house bridge projects to ensure the completion and adequacy of structural work.
- Ensures timely approval of all structure plans to ensure the timely receipt of final plans or construction bids.
- Develops and interprets policies for structural design to assist the consultants, districts and counties in their plan preparation.
- Provides field inspections of bridge sites to study construction problems and develop details for corrective action.
- Manages all activities of the In-House Bridge Design Unit to assure the cost-effective accomplishment of responsibilities.
- Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinates to ensure a well-developed and competent staff.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Eight years of experience in civil engineering.
- Three years supervising staff and managing engineering functions.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering.
- Experience with departmental bridge policies and contract plans.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Requires a valid driver's license.
- Requires occasional statewide travel with overnight stays.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
