About the role
- Responsible for the structural analysis and design of routine to extremely complex bridge standards projects
- Conducting special investigations concerning design specifications, design concepts, and construction procedures
- Develops routine to extremely complex structural standards which incorporate current methods and technology
- Produces design computations utilized in the preparation of structural plans
- Aids in the updating of design policy documents including the Bridge Manual, Culvert Manual, Design Guides, and All Bridge Design Memoranda
- Reviews and recommends approval/disapproval of proprietary products for qualified product lists in Illinois
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
- Four years of experience in civil, structural, or bridge engineering
- Extensive knowledge of civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of the principles of civil engineering with an emphasis on bridge design and construction
- Requires a valid driver’s license
- Requires successful completion of a background screening
- Requires occasional statewide and out-of-state travel with overnight stays
