About the role

  • Responsible for the structural analysis and design of routine to extremely complex bridge standards projects
  • Conducting special investigations concerning design specifications, design concepts, and construction procedures
  • Develops routine to extremely complex structural standards which incorporate current methods and technology
  • Produces design computations utilized in the preparation of structural plans
  • Aids in the updating of design policy documents including the Bridge Manual, Culvert Manual, Design Guides, and All Bridge Design Memoranda
  • Reviews and recommends approval/disapproval of proprietary products for qualified product lists in Illinois
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
  • Four years of experience in civil, structural, or bridge engineering
  • Extensive knowledge of civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the principles of civil engineering with an emphasis on bridge design and construction
  • Requires a valid driver’s license
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening
  • Requires occasional statewide and out-of-state travel with overnight stays
