About the role

  • Development, implementation, and interpretation of geometric design and engineering policies for highways construction
  • Managing the content and publishing revisions for the Bureau of Design and Environment (BDE) Manual
  • Maintain an effective liaison with district, central, and federal offices for policy input and resolution of problems
  • Develop policies and procedures for conducting Phase I studies
  • Monitor, evaluate, and recommend actions on changes in regulations and publications concerning design of highways

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
  • Eight years of experience in civil engineering
  • Three years supervising staff and managing engineering functions
  • Experience with design policy and the planning and supervision of significant engineering functions
  • Extensive knowledge of modern methods applicable to the design, construction, and maintenance of highways
  • Good organization, leadership, and self-motivational skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Requires a valid driver’s license
  • Requires frequent statewide and occasional out-of-state travel with overnight stays.
