About the role
- Performs a wide variety of accounting functions in support of the department
- Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the department and in determining program needs
- Ensures compliance with policies, procedure and applicable state regulations which impact financial reporting and accounting
- Assists with preparing, compiling, researching, and reviewing monthly and quarterly reports and annual financial statements
- Responsible for assisting agencies with completion of GAAP packages
- Consults with outside agency personnel and provides training on various SAMS/GAAP accounting procedures
Requirements
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a degree in a closely related field with the completion of a minimum of 30 semester credit hours in accounting
- Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience of which a minimum of one (1) year must be in the fields of accounting, budgeting, fiscal management, internal auditing, or finance
- Prefers the possession of a valid license as a Certified Public Accountant or Registered CPA
- Prefers three (3) years of experience working with government budget or accounting processes and accounting systems
- Prefers three (3) years of financial statements, bond footnotes, or other financial reports
