About the role
- Accountable for the development and implementation of design standards, specifications, special provisions and programs relating to traffic signing and pavement marking contracts prepared by the districts.
- Development of contract plans for statewide traffic signing and pavement marking projects.
- Keeping abreast of current traffic, design and construction policies and procedures to ensure that the department is providing the best signs and pavement markings available.
- Reviewing and recommending approval of traffic signing and pavement marking plans for inclusion on contract lettings.
- Preparing for letting and administering annual Statewide Freeway Sign Maintenance, Sign Structure Repair and High-Type Pavement Marking Contracts.
- Developing the Bureau of Operations’ traffic contracts program.
- Maintaining the Bureau of Operations’ Approved Pavement Marking Contractors list.
- Performing duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performing all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience; OR Eight years of engineering experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Previous experience in highway construction plans and contracts development.
- Previous experience in highway construction inspection and documentation.
- Previous experience in project programming and budgeting.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff and contractors.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires occasional travel.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
