About the role

  • Accountable for the development and implementation of design standards, specifications, special provisions and programs relating to traffic signing and pavement marking contracts prepared by the districts.
  • Development of contract plans for statewide traffic signing and pavement marking projects.
  • Keeping abreast of current traffic, design and construction policies and procedures to ensure that the department is providing the best signs and pavement markings available.
  • Reviewing and recommending approval of traffic signing and pavement marking plans for inclusion on contract lettings.
  • Preparing for letting and administering annual Statewide Freeway Sign Maintenance, Sign Structure Repair and High-Type Pavement Marking Contracts.
  • Developing the Bureau of Operations’ traffic contracts program.
  • Maintaining the Bureau of Operations’ Approved Pavement Marking Contractors list.
  • Performing duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performing all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience; OR Eight years of engineering experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience in highway construction plans and contracts development.
  • Previous experience in highway construction inspection and documentation.
  • Previous experience in project programming and budgeting.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff and contractors.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional travel.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
