About the role

  • Assists in obtaining field survey measurements by operating and reading instruments used in conducting route, bridge, hydraulic, and property surveys.
  • Ensures the collection and recording of accurate survey data, using survey instruments.
  • Performs routine calculations based upon instrument readings and presents information in a meaningful format.
  • Assists the Survey Crew Chief in training survey crew personnel in the use and maintenance of survey equipment and instruments, as well as working on a survey crew.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR Six years of engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as they relate to field surveying.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry and its application to field surveying and engineering computations.
  • Skill in the use of engineering field and office instruments and of laboratory testing equipment.
  • Ability to take direct charge of simple engineering projects within design standards.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Districtwide travel.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
