About the role
- Provides coordinated district effort in determining engineering feasibility of each project scope of work.
- Provides for continuous consultation with all interested parties on location and design study problems so as to ensure timely approval of each project.
- Provides for effective management of the section and the efficient distribution of work between in-house staff and consultants so as to ensure timely program progress and completion.
- Provides for subordinate staff development through continuous performance evaluation and counseling and making proper training available.
- Provides for close contact and communication with representatives of federal, state, and local government agencies; legislators; quasi-public agencies; the news media; and private citizens to obtain their acceptance of the district's programming initiatives.
- Ensures that the program development functions are performed to provide effective and efficient highway transportation facilities that incorporate the latest policies and procedures that encompass Context Sensitive Solutions.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules and requires same of subordinate staff.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Eight years of experience in civil engineering including three years of supervising staff and managing engineering functions.
- Proven ability to coordinate with other bureaus and the central office, and to engage effectively with local governments and large organizations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current highway policies and procedures as they relate to program development, project studies and project design.
- Knowledge of project implementation procedures and departmental organizations.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and track project progress.
- Demonstrated ability to develop staff through performance feedback, mentoring, and access to appropriate training opportunities.
