About the role
- A Sr. Hardware Engineer leads the end-to-end design and development of PCBAs as well as product sustaining while providing technical guidance and mentoring junior staff
- They balance hands-on architecture and circuit design with high-level project management, ensuring all products meet strict performance and reliability standards
- Assist US Hardware engineering team in PCBA development, Sustaining and DISCON
- Attend product development and critical kick-off meetings for initial product launch
- Provide technical guidance to hardware engineers on PCBA development and Sustaining engineering
- Direct the effort to find, simulate, and qualify a functional replacement for a critical IC, semiconductor or any electrical component that goes End-of-life (EOL)
- Drive the validation of second-source components to prevent manufacturing line-down situations
- Create complex board schematic designs based on customer requirements and specifications
- Team up with hardware engineers to translate schematics into physical layouts
- Perform pre and post PCB layout review to prevent or eliminate design issues such as crosstalk, reflections and voltage drops
- Ensure that all designs are optimized for signal and power integrity
- Mentor junior engineers and act as primary interface between cross-functional teams like firmware, mechanical and manufacturing
- Travel when needed to North Reading Site to perform final product verification.
Requirements
- A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
- Typically 8 to 10 years of experience in PCBA hardware development, with at least 4 years specifically in sustaining and reliability roles
- Preferably has knowledge in high-speed digital interfaces (DDR5, PCIe Gen5/6, Ethernet and RF/Analog Circuits)
- Proficient in using PCB schematic and board layout tools and can manage complex constraints for differential pairs, length matching, and impedance control
- Proficient in handling and using laboratory equipment and tools
- Can perform Pre-layout and Post-layout SI/PI simulations to predict crosstalk, reflections, and voltage drops
- Familiarity with IPC Class standards
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must possess a hands-on practical approach to problem-solving
- Working knowledge of Teamcenter is a plus
- Must be comfortable working with outside vendors and be willing to travel to the US.
