About the role
- Planning and directing the activities of the Mixtures Control Unit.
- Verifying designs for Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Portland Cement Concrete (PCC), and related mixtures.
- Establishing and supervising the implementation of the district standard of practice regarding quality control practices, field sampling, mixture testing, and inspection.
- Providing timely, practical, and economical solutions to mixtures problems encountered during construction and maintenance.
- Reviewing plans, specifications, and special provisions and making recommendations prior to letting.
- Monitoring the performance of mixtures during their service life and adjusting practices to improve service life.
Requirements
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the State of Illinois.
- Five years of experience in civil engineering.
- Knowledge of materials quality control practices and areas of mixtures testing and inspection.
- Ability to supervise the work of other engineers and technicians.
- Ability to complete Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) III and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) III certification within two years of the hire.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires districtwide travel.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
