About the role

  • Inspects aggregate material and aggregate sources and monitors plant operation to ensure that the aggregate produced meets the specifications required for each individual project
  • Maintains complete and accurate material testing records
  • Prepares complete and accurate reports for Materials Integrated System for Test Information and Communication (MISTIC) and other reporting systems
  • Observes and verifies compliance of aggregate producers with the department’s Aggregate Gradation Control System (AGCS) program and the Manual for Aggregate Inspection
  • Assists in calibrating and maintaining laboratory testing equipment to ensure information is accurate
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job-related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience OR six years of engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of the Aggregate Gradation Control System (AGCS) program, the Standard Specifications, and the Special Provisions (preferred)
  • Successful completion of the IDOT Quality Management Training Program for both PCC Level I (CET 030) and HMA Level I (CET 029) (formerly known as QC/QA HMA Level I and PCC Level I)
  • Strong communication skills
