About the role

  • Primary point of contact for coordination, review, and development of construction plans and specifications for airport improvement projects
  • Assist sponsors with local letting of projects utilizing local procurement guidance
  • Work closely with airport sponsors and consultants
  • Responsible for the administration, coordination, and review of designs for construction plan and specification development utilizing state and federal grant funds
  • Ensure projects are developed efficiently and economically in accordance with the scope and budget
  • Review all Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) submittals for scope and cost estimates
  • Conduct pre-design and special coordination meetings
  • Provide guidance to consulting engineers during the design of airport projects
  • Review and approve engineering reports and plans
  • Prepare contract documents and post letting documents
  • Assist in developing and publishing all section documents including specifications and policies

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
  • Four years of experience in civil engineering
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering (preferred)
  • Experience developing and supervising civil transportation and capital improvement projects (preferred)
  • Experience in financial management of multiple large civil transportation projects and programs (preferred)
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills and experience (preferred)
  • Ability to self-motivate (preferred)
  • Requires a valid driver’s license
  • Requires frequent daytime travel intermittently, with occasional statewide travel which may include overnight stays
